The Bugatti Archive (1910-1939)

The Bugatti (1910–1939) Archive presents one of the richest visual records of the marque’s golden era — a period when Ettore Bugatti shaped automotive engineering, industrial design, and modern aesthetics with unmatched refinement.

This collection brings together rare factory drawings, heliographic copies, period brochures, restored posters, and documentary photography, offering an authoritative view into the evolution of the brand during the interwar years and the broader Art Deco era.

MORE ABOUT THIS ARCHIVE

Many of the original factory drawings — long considered lost after Bugatti’s early archives were dispersed — survive today only through high-quality heliographic copies carefully preserved over time. These reproductions, uniquely safeguarded within the Bugatti organization during the years preceding the creation of Bugatti Automobili, now represent one of the few complete technical testimonies of the marque’s early engineering language.

Alongside these materials, the archive includes rare period photographs and contemporary documentation by Roberto Bigano that captures surviving Bugatti models with exceptional precision. His photographic work — also central to archives such as the Mannequins Archive — provides a unified visual approach across the Ikonographia collection.

Together, these materials form a comprehensive historical resource for scholars, collectors, designers, and enthusiasts interested in early automotive engineering, interwar design, and the cultural landscape in which Bugatti became a symbol of elegance and innovation.

Bugatti’s literature had a home-made taste. The Company didn’t have the budgets of most car makers, but its brochures were original and elegant—a class from itself.
